The Scéal with DKIT Sport

Following our last blogpost about our local heroes, we have more lovely news and stories about our members and staff that we wanted to share with you 😊

DARREN O BRIEN

Darren has been a member of DKIT Sport since 2017 and is a current MMA fighter in Leinster. With a fight coming on his horizon Darren booked a gym program with one of our gym team, Ronan, four weeks out from his fight. This is what he had to say about it and how it helped him.

When did you first book in for an appointment with Ronan?

DOB: “Around four weeks before my last fight.” (Fight: April 7th 2019)

What kind of training did Ronan program for you?
DOB: “Since it was 4 weeks before the fight, he had me focus on power development and building my stamina. We built up my lower body power through squats and box jumps while also building my hamstring strength. He also had me doing rotational work to build my strength in the transverse plane and replicated movement patterns required for mixed martial arts.”

How did it impact your fight?

“I found I was fitter and stronger than ever. Ronan really put me through my paces especially leading up to the fight. I feel he was a massive factor in helping me get the win and gave me that extra push I needed.”

“Darren gives huge credit to Ronan for his knowledge and specialist training programme which helped Darren’s fitness and stamina and encourages other to book in with the team to get the result they are searching for.”

Keep up the winning streak Darren and well done again on a great win from all here at DKIT Sport!

PETER MC GUINNESS

Peter McGuiness marked today 6/6/2019 in memory of his father. Peter ran an 8k this morning in memory of his father Francis McGuinness. Today marks the 75th anniversary of D-Day and his father was part of the army at this time and was a valued member during this historic event. Peter Mc Guinness Peter does this run every year to honour his father and his father colleges who were part of the largest seaborne invasion in history.

LOUTH GAA TEAMS

Shout out to all the Louth Gaa teams that have been using the facility to prepare for the long hard summer of football and hurling that lies ahead, both ladies and men’s’ teams. While the ladies team has a number of week left before the championship kicks off in full gear, both the Men’s football and hurling teams are already under way. The men played their first round game against current All-Ireland champions Dublin on Saturday may 25th. They were unlucky to catch them in the first round of the championship, and there was great hope for them with a well matched draw with Antrim for the first round of the qualifiers. However it turned out not to be Louth’s year, we were delighted to have them training with us all year and look forward to working with them in the future.

The Hurlers have already started their campaign in the Nicky Rackard Cup. They are in group 2 with Mayo, Sligo and Tyrone, having already two defeat in the group they will go out on Saturday the June 1st with a point to prove. Come on the wee county.

WOMENS HOCKEY

We are delighted to be hosting the Irish women’s hockey team on site for a period of two weeks during the month of June. The ladies will be using the facility during their stay in Dundalk as they play their games in Belfast. It is an absolute honour to have these athletes come in and use the facility and is it a great achievement by DKIT sport to be asked to host them during their stay.

Staff Spotlight

A big shout out to our party host Katie McEneaney who will be jetting off to L.A in July with her dance troop based in Dundalk. The group are travelling over to L.A to compete in the world hip hop dance competition and we are so proud to have a member of the team representing over there. What a great opportunity for Katie and her team troopers and we here at DKIT Sport wish her the very best of luck.

WHILE WE’RE HERE……

We are so happy to announce the running of a new H40 boot-camp for June as well. H40 is our dedicated fitness class that is specific and unique to DKIT sport. We will be utilising our new InBody machine for this boot-camp and also our state of the art High performance unit. Both of these are assets which make our site unique than any other gym in Dundalk and we are delighted to be leading the way in fitness and fitness technology.
